Skills
Skills are the marker of progress made by a specific character during the game. The player and all villages continuously improve their skills over time. When the player eventually dies, they will start over with the skill levels of their chosen heir. Children learn skills while in school, as a farmhand or in apprenticeships.
There are six skills: Foraging, Farming, Fishing, Social, Crafting, and Cooking. Leveling up a skill increases the quality of items it produces, or in the case of socializing, increases the effects of social interactions. Each skill has its own pool of recipes and blueprints, and leveling up will unlock one at random if any remain undiscovered.
At levels 5 and 10 of each skill, the player will be asked to choose a Perk. These provide specific buffs to one aspect of the skill and can increase profit or efficiency. The Perks available at level 10 depend on the choice made at level 5, continuing that specialty. Perk choices are permanent for each character, but new selections can be made when playing as that character’s heir.
Foraging Skill
You increase your Foraging skill by collecting items found around Honeywood, shaking trees and bushes, and mining in the Local Mine. Foraging experience is also gained when hoeing produces worms.
Farming Skill
You increase your Farming skill by harvesting your crops, milking goats and cows, and shearing your sheep. Shaking crops from your fruit trees and bushes also increases your farming skill.
Fishing Skill
You increase your Fishing skill by using a fishing rod in any body of water.
Social Skill
Talking to villagers, insulting them, and gifting are the only way to increase your social skill.
Crafting Skill
You increase your Crafting skill by crafting items at the crafting table, or by collecting refined items from already placed machines such as drying racks.
Crafting is done at the Crafting Table. Blueprints must be unlocked before an item can be crafted, and can be obtained through quest rewards or skill level-ups. The materials required for each item can only be viewed at the Crafting Table, as blueprints are not stored elsewhere in-game. Crafting items at the table is relatively quick, while the time required to refine items varies between machines.
Cooking Skill
You increase your Cooking skill using the Cooking Pot within your farmhouse. If your house is upgraded, you will have two cooking pots, allowing you to cook two recipes at the same time. Ingredients must be in your inventory to be used. You can make up to four servings at once, provided you have enough ingredients. Experience is earned per serving. While a few recipes earn more experience than others, they use more expensive ingredients and have longer cooking times, making simpler recipes more ideal for leveling.
In total, there are 112 recipes to learn in the game. You can obtain recipe cards from fulfilling quests, unlocking them through skill level ups, or buying them from villagers during special events.
